The goal of this study was to compare self reported health related quality of life with objective exercise performance in patients with congenital heart disease according to diagnostic subgroups.
Results showed, that patients with congenital heart defects are only impaired in their physical functioning and their general health in respect to their quality of life. This is true for all subgroups, including severe heart defects such as Fontan or palliated cyanotic defects. Impairment correlates directly to exercise performance (VO2max). Even though there is good correlation, most patients overestimate their physical exercise performance.
