This dataset includes computed tomography images of neurocysticercosis positive patients identified during the first examinations of the study that is described in detail in the manuscript „Taenia solium cysticercosis and taeniasis in urban settings: epidemiological evidence from a health-center based study among people with epilepsy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania“. Between March 2012 and December 2013 epidemiological, neurological, and radiological characteristics of T. solium cysticercosis and taeniasis in people with epilepsy (PWE) living in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, were investigated. A total of 302 PWE were recruited from six health centers in Kinondoni district of Dar es Salaam. Serological testing for the presence of T. solium antigen (tested by ELISA) and antibodies to T. solium cysticercosis and taeniasis (tested by immunoblot) was performed in all PWE. In addition, ophthalmological and radiological examinations including cranial computed tomography were performed as well as a clinical check for subcutaneous nodules. Demographic, public health, and medical history data were collected by questionnaires. This study was funded by the DFG (German Research Foundation) within the research grant "Neurocysticercosis in sub-Saharan Africa" (BR3752/1-1).
