Psychosocial distress seems to play an important role for children and adolescents with vertigo/dizziness. In evaluation of standardized questionnaires of 93 patients and their parents, psychological distress was high above average in comparison to healthy children and adolescents. Somatoform vertigo was diagnosed in 49,5 % of our patients. In comparison between patients with organic vertigo disorders and patients with somatoform vertigo disorders, parents of children with somatoform vertigo disorders noticed significant more emotional and behavioral problems.
