Between 1979 and 2000, 53 patients were treated in the Klinik für Orthopädie der Technischen Universität München with modular tumor endoprosthesises in light of malignant tumors in either the shoulder or the knee joint. The therapy followed the established guidelines and the staging and functional evaluation followed the criteria of W. Enneking. The clinical results for knee and shoulder treatment support the data shown in international literature in regards to survival, rate of complication, and local recurrence and thus reinforce the mode of therapy. A further optimisation of diagnostic, therapeutical, and rehabilitative measures will lead to additional improvements of the functional results for the patient.
