The aim of the study was to analyse the effects of botulinum toxin therapy on neurophysiological parameters such as intracortical excitability on the one hand, and clinical parameters such as objective writing parameters on the other, in patients with writer’s cramp by means of MEP-measures and parallel writing analysis.
The results of the study showed a significant influence on the pathologically reduced intracortical inhibition in patients with writer´s cramp as a result of botulinum toxin therapy.
Despite a clear subjective clinical effect of botulinum toxin therapy, there was however no significant effect evident on the objective measurement of writing parameters when simple circular movements were examined.
