From the economic view the accession to the pharmaceutical interesting active agent, the chiral trans-cyclohexadiene derivates, in the industrial scale was not so far meaningful due to the complex chemical synthesis and complex down-stream processing procedures. The objective of this thesis was the development of a fermentation process for the production of the trans-cyclohexadiene derivates 2,3-trans-CHD, 3,4-trans-CHD and 2,3-trans-CHA with recombinant Escherichia coli strains up to 300 litre pilot scale. The purposeful optimization of the fermentation process in connection with the improvement of Escherichia coli strains led to an multiple increasing of productivity. For the first time, trans-cyclohexadiene derivates in the kg scale could be produced. On the basis of these developed fermentation processes an integrated product recovery procedure which is based on the reactive extraction was successfully established for the trans-cyclohexadien-diols 2,3-trans-CHD and 3,4-trans-CHD.
