The purpose of this study is the comparison of the diagnostic performance of dynamic MR-Mammography and F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET in the characterization of newly discovered breast lesions. 81 patients with abnormal mammography or palpable breast lumbs, scheduled for excisional biopsy, were referred for MR- and PET-imaging. The results of this study show that sensitivity of MR-Mammography is superior to that of 18-F FDG PET, while specificity and thus positive predictive value are higher using PET. Therefore both techniques have limitations in ruling out malignancy.
