A segment type closure presenting a high percentage of contact area and a relatively simple construction, providing an economically priced alternative to well-known and widely-used quick release type closures, such as the bajonet closure, the clamp ring closure or the screw plug closure. Having experimentally and numerically analyzed such a conventional segment type closure, the weak spots of the closure design have been revealed and a strategy for an optimized closure design in view of its stress and deformation behaviour with an enhanced bearing and fatigue behaviour have been developed.
