The resolved high Rydberg spectroscopy developed in this work allows to resolve individual rotational states in polyatomic molecular and cluster cations. Besides investigations on the position and dynamics of individual Rydbergstates themselves, new information on the dissociation dynamics of larger ionic clusters and the first clear spectroscopic evidence for an external heavy atom effect in polyatomic molecules is presented. Further experiments investigate the Starkeffect in electronically excited benzonitrile to explore charge-transfer processes in aromatic molecules.
