Functional disorders (FD) are characterized by heterogeneous, persistent, and burdensome bodily symptoms without a clear pathophysiological correlate. Empirical evidence for common underlying mechanisms and objectively measurable markers of FD is lacking. This thesis demonstrates that head instability at the end of gaze shifts is a transdiagnostic marker of sensorimotor processing deficits in persons with functional dizziness or functional movement disorder, but not chronic functional pain.

Funktionelle Störungen (FD) sind durch heterogene, anhaltende und belastende körperliche Symptome gekennzeichnet, für die es kein eindeutiges pathophysiologisches Korrelat gibt. In dieser Arbeit wird gezeigt, dass Kopfinstabilität am Ende von Blicksprüngen ein transdiagnostischer Marker für sensomotorische Verarbeitungsdefizite bei Personen mit funktionellem Schwindel oder funktionellen Bewegungsstörungen, nicht aber mit chronischen funktionellen Schmerzen ist.
