In this thesis, expanding shells in the local galactic interstellar medium have been investigated using the newest and highest resolution all-sky neutral hydrogen survey. New algorithms to automatically search for expanding shells in the local Milky Way have been evaluated. This results in a new shell catalog that has been analyzed to derive astrophysical interpretations. The parameters of the shells near the Scorpius-Centaurus OB association have been refined. Based on the new results a proposal for the evolution of this region is presented.
