Abstract:
The replacement of coal in medium to full-scale combined heat and power plants (CHP) using renewable biomass fuels can contribute to decrease the emitted amount of fossil carbon dioxide. Ash related problems limits the use of biomass as fuel in pulverized-fuel boilers. The use of additives such as coal fly ash or kaolin, acting as alkali capture sorbents, represents a promising approach to decrease the formation of combustion aerosols. Besides the aerosol reduction effect the chemical compositio...     »
