Allergic diseases occur due to a dysregulated immune system that is characterized by inflammation and the formation of specific IgE antibodies against harmless environmental antigens. In a natural pollen exposure panel study, nasal biomarkers predicting in-season symptom expression were identified in non-allergic subjects as well as in patients with pollen-induced seasonal allergic rhinitis. We also introduced a novel, non-invasive alternative to routine serum IgE diagnostics. Hereby, we evaluated nasal fluid as a new target for the allergy diagnostic.
