Mitral valvular heart disease is a serious condition and requires elaborate clinical management. Visual and quantitative evaluation of the valve is crucial for assessment and interventional planning. Metric analysis of 2D images comprises potential errors, while commercial solutions are limited to specific anatomic components, pathologies and 3D acquisitions. Our novel approach for morphological and functional quantification of the mitral valve is based on a 4D physiological model and utilizes parametric spline surfaces where parameters are estimated for each patient individually. This enables for model-based dynamic measurements for precise evaluation of the anatomy, which are validated with clinical research results.
