This thesis is analyzing the upper esophageal sphincter in high-resolution manometry . By measuring 25 test persons, a data pool with normative values of various parameters for the upper esophageal sphincter was generated. Following , the acquired data was compared to ten patients with Zenker's diverticulum to obtain a more detailed understanding of the pathogenesis of this disease, which has not yet been adequately deciphered. Additionally, transoral high-resolution manometries were performed in order to understand the oral part of swallowing.
