The impact of orthognathic surgery on the temporomandibular joint is still discussed controversially. Based on a uniform collective of 375 patients, function and clinical symptoms of the temporomandibular joint, using the dysfunction index of Helkimo, were evaluated preoperative and 6 weeks, 6 months, 12 months, and 2 years postoperative. The results of this study suggest that symptoms of temporomandibular dysfunction can be significantly reduced by orthognatic surgery. No risk factors were found for long-term effects on the temporomandibular joint.     «

Die Auswirkungen der orthognathen Chirurgie auf das Kiefergelenk werden nach wie vor kontrovers diskutiert. Basierend auf einem Kollektiv von 375 Patienten wurden Funktion und klinische Symptome des Kiefergelenks unter Zuhilfenahme des Helkimo-Index präoperativ sowie 6 Wochen, 6 Monate, 12 Monate und 2 Jahre postoperativ evaluiert. Die Ergebnisse zeigten, dass Dysfunktionen des Kiefergelenks durch die orthognathe Chirurgie statistisch signifikant reduziert werden können. Es konnten keine Risikofaktoren für langanhaltende Kiefergelenkbeschwerden ermittelt werden.     «
