Multiple-Domain Matrices and Knowledge Maps for Visualizing Knowledge-Driven Scenarios

As stakeholders’ needs and requirements change over time, companies have to develop their knowledge for designing more complex products to fulfill these needs. Knowledge mapping is an approach to visualize companies' knowledge distribution. Scenario technique is used for planning future developments by revealing several future options. Within this paper, we combine a Multiple-Domain Mapping (MDM) based knowledge mapping approach and scenario technique to acquire the current company’s knowledge structure and to derive future options regarding the knowledge structure and to show these options and the development for realizing these options using knowledge maps. Starting from the departments’ current knowledge map, we developed a methodology to build a scenarios knowledge map which depicts the future knowledge structure. The difference between current and scenario knowledge map can be illustrated also as a knowledge map which shows the required changes of the department. The developed methodology was applied in a mechanical engineering company.     «
