We report on novel ideas to support the equipment of technical systems with cognitive capabilities on the software side. We represent a given data set by points in some Euclidean space and search for certain properties of associated geometric objects, that are characteristic for the given data set concerning various aspects.
In this paper, our focus is on symmetry detection in the context of identifying traffic signs from visual data. Also, we present an algorithm which can be used to determine the direction of a sound source from head related impulse response (HRIR) data.
