Acute pancreatitis is characterized by sterile inflammation in the pancreas. The role of the CGRP signaling pathway in this process is not yet known. CGRP acts as a neural modulator of the innate immune response. The CGRP receptor consists of two subunits: RAMP1 and CLR. In this study, the role of the CGRP/RAMP1 pathway in the acute phase of caerulein-induced acute pancreatitis was investigated using a RAMP1 knockout mouse model. The present study emphasizes the important role of CGRP in inhibiting the innate immune response in acute pancreatitis.
