- Abstract:
- Uncertainty avoidance is a central premise of management theories originating in the Carnegie School. I address the question how organizational actors can embrace uncertainty to leverage it as a source of novelty. In three related studies I examine how organizational actors tackle truly novel, emergent goals and how this affects the design of the (organizational) structures that they create. I develop a set of closely connected concepts that can advance our understanding of explorative search.

- Die Vermeidung von Unsicherheit ist eine zentrale Prämisse von Managementtheorien mit dem Ursprung in der Carnegie School. Ich beschäftige mich mit der Frage, wie Akteure in Organisationen Unsicherheit in ihr Handeln einschließen können und als Quelle für Neuheit nutzen können. In drei miteinander verbundenen Studien untersuche ich, wie Akteure neuartige, sich entwickelnde Ziele verfolgen und wie sich dies auf die Gestaltung der von ihnen geschaffenen (Organisations-) Strukturen auswirkt.
