This work investigates the feasibility of the Kalman filter for the state estimation of lithium-ion cells and modules under real conditions. Therefore, the dependencies of the cells during ageing are shown and various Kalman filter types are compared. The strongly varying model parameters, as well as the temperature and ageing dependent open circuit voltage, require an empirical adaptation of the inconstant and non-linear filter tuning parameters. The performance of the Kalman filter in a real application is significantly lower compared to the laboratory environment.
