To examine the role of the Cullin-RING E3 ubiquitin ligase 7 in the heart, a cardiomyocyte-specific deletion of Cullin7 (Cul7) was achieved by intrapericardial delivery of a Cre recombinase-encoding adeno-associated virus serotype 9 in neonatal mice. Under basal conditions, an upregulation of phospho-AKT could be detected. Further, after 3 weeks of TAC inducing pressure overload, less cardiac fibrosis, apoptosis as well as expression of TGF-ß could be observed. Thus, Cul7 may constitute a novel regulator of interstitial cardiac fibrosis and apoptosis in the diseased heart.
