Today, unmanned flying systems are of great interest for the industry and research. The advancing miniaturization of the sensor and computer platforms enables the implementation of complex functions on scaled, relatively inexpensive, flying systems. As part of the development of a novel UAV, the design of a robust lateral dynamics controller with innovative introduction of structural constraints is proposed. It is preceded by a study on the applicability of Flying Qualities requirements from manned to unmanned aircraft. The performance of the control system is demonstrated in flight tests.
