Bis(phenolate)yttrium complexes are active in ring-opening (ROP) and group-transfer polymerization (GTP).Via ROP with complexes with a new ligand isotactic poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) from racemic beta-butyrolactone (BBL) is obtained. ROP with heteroaromatic catalysts enables the synthesis of copolymers from BBL and menthide. GTP with bis(phenolate)lanthanides is investigated in a systematic study for different monomers. Afterwards, these complexes are used for the synthesis of polymers from 2 vinylpyridine and dialkyl vinylphosphonates for drug delivery and conversion of carbon dioxide.
