In this work, a murine burn model was used to investigate whether platelets modulate the posttraumatic immune response of CD4 + Tregs. Platelets are able to modulate the immune response following trauma by augmenting the activation of CD4+ Tregs. The activation of CD4+ Tregs is considered protective in the setting of trauma induced injury. Interestingly, CD4+ Tregs are vice versa able to influence the hemostatic function of platelets. This work is the first to show, that platelets augment the protective activity of CD4+ Tregs and that the interaction of platelets and CD4+ Tregs is reciprocal.
