Bending strength of plastic gears is significantly influenced by load-induced deflections. In this work, the known methods for calculating bending strength of oil-lubricated cylindrical plastic gears are extended. Therefore, results of theoretic and experimental investigations are considered. Back-to-back tests are conducted using injection molded plastic spur gears (POM, PA, PEEK) paired with steel pinions. The tests prove the potential of cylindrical plastic gears for transmitting higher torque than expected according to the previous state of knowledge (VDI 2736).
