Obesity is characterized as a state of chronic low-grade inflammation contributing to the pathogenesis of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. In this thesis, the role of the NFκB-signaling in adipocytes for the regulation of the chemokine/ adipokine IP-10 as well as for the adipocyte-mediated T cell migration was analyzed. Moreover, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from obese and normal-weight women were compared with regard to composition of immune cell subpopulations, surface expression of chemokine receptors as well as migration capacity.
