Abstract:
In human cells, the most carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon dibenzo[a,1]pyrene (DB[a,1]P) forms high levels of DNA adducts through formation of the (-)-anti-(11R,12S)-diol (13S,14R)-epoxide (DB[a,1]PDE) and its metabolic precursor, the (-)-(11R,12R)-diol. Generation of these adducts results from the catalytic activity of cytochrome P450 (P450) 1A1 and 1B1. Additional adducts such as (+)-syn-DB[a,1]PDE-DNA or more polar DNA adducts were detected only after increasing exposure doses of t...     »
