Abstract:
The discovery of tyrosine kinases that, once deregulated, can cause malignancy, allowed the development of specifically acting anti-cancer compounds. In chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML), the Bcr-Abl kinase inhibitor imatinib (STI571, Gleevec) induces impressive response rates.
