Abstract:
Barrett's carcinoma, usually arising in the distal esophagus, must be considered a separate entity from squamous cell esophageal cancer. Epidemiology, etiology, patients' risk profiles, biology of metastases, and prognosis differ markedly between these two major esophageal tumor types.
