Development of a simulator-based training for prospective emergency doctors.

Background. Emergency doctors are challenged daily by a wide variety of different emergency situations requiring rapid and correct decision-making. Human patient simulators provide a means of training without bearing risks for patients. The aim was to establish a simulator-based training for prospective emergency doctors. Methods. During a 1.5 day training program, actors, video beamer, loudspeakers, original equipment and 2 paramedics were used tobuild a realistic simulation environment. Each scenario was videotaped and in the final phase a debriefing was carried by an experienced emergency doctor. A standardized questionnaire was used to evaluate the training. Results. Overall rating, rating of realism and relevance were very good. Quality of live TV coverage was rated as being in need of improvement. Conclusion. Human patient simulators provide practical training facilities for prospective emergency doctors.     «
