The second edition of the International classification of headache disorders classifies for the first time the new group of trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias (TACs). These relatively rare headache syndromes are characterised by very intense periorbital pain with facial autonomic symptoms. The following article describes the symptomatic criteria, the pathophysiology as well as the therapeutic options of the new TAC classification and discusses the intention and advantages associated with this now group of primary headache syndromes.
