Based on literature data and own measurements of the thoracic stiffness of fresh cadavers, an advanced mechanical chest model has been developed. Due to the highly adjustable chest stiffness and the integration of an artificial blood flow system, it is possible to simulate and analyze a big variety of realistic CPR-scenarios. Thus the established model can be used as a training tool for manual cardiac massage as well as an aid for construction and evaluation of mechanical CPR-devices. Moreover, the effectiveness of different compression waveforms can be investigated in addition.
