This work addresses an optimization problem for electrical drives at low switching frequencies. Two approaches are developed and compared in this dissertation. The first one is an offline current distortion optimization algorithm that has advantages in terms of problem formulation and calculation times. The second approach is an online optimization based on stator flux predictions. Finally, the performance of both approaches is analyzed and compared through experimental results for a 5-level Flying Capacitor converter. However, the algorithms can be applied to any other topology with any voltage levels.
