Mutations in the ARFGEF2 gene have been reported to cause a rare malformation of the cerebral cortex, ARPHM. To investigate whether spatiotemporal expression of Arfgef2 is related to distinct steps of cortical neuronal migration during mouse development, radioactive in situ hybridization and northern blot analyses were performed. From E11.5 to E17.5 Arfgef2 is highly expressed in neural precursors of cerebral cortical, diencephalic ventricular zones, olfactory epithelium and in brain nerve nuclei. These data may account for an implication of the protein BIG2 in cerebral cortical neurogenesis.
