Esophageal Carcinoma: Surgical and Multimodal Therapy The prognosis of surgically resected esophageal cancer has markedly improved during the past decades. In addition to a more critical patient selection, advances in surgical technique and a progress in perioperative management, the use of multimodal treatment strategies has been associated with this development. This review aims to clarify the current indications for primary resection and the targeted use of multimodal treatment in esophageal cancer.
