The thesis presents by means of methodological consideration, that optimization algorithms combined with analytical descriptions are capable to compare, optimize and select a mechatronic systems with respect to various requirements. The example of a small combined heat and power plant, existing of piston actuator and linear electric generator, is used to show how to determine necessary system equations. For detailed recalculation of the linear machine also an analytical set of equations is presented with special consideration of cogging forces. For automated optimization a Particle Swarm algorithm is applied, which is adapted to the system and modified for rapid convergence.
