Hereditary criteria (HC) are an established parameter of selection in basic research of familial prostate carcinoma (PC). 30.455 PC-patients were divided into four groups (I-IV) according to their year of birth (1920-59) and were analysed in respect of their first-grade relatives. Over the course of time, a decreasing average number of offspring leads to the fact that fewer and fewer patients fulfill one of the HC (I 7,1%; IV 6,3%). Consequently, these criteria are less and less suitable to determine the status of PC-patients.
