Abstract:
Cancer cells convert glucose preferentially to lactate even in the presence of oxygen (aerobic glycolysis-Warburg effect). New concepts in cancer treatment aim at inhibition of aerobic glycolysis. Pyruvate dehydrogenase converts pyruvate to acetylCoA thus preventing lactate formation.
