Stent thrombosis is a severe complication of coronary stent implantation. The aim of this study was to determine the incidence and predictors of stent thrombosis. The incidence of stent thrombosis among 18 334 patients was 1.3%. Diabetes mellitus, clinical presentation with ST segment elevation myocardial infarction, complex lesion morphology, in-stent restenosis and residual stenosis after stent implantation were predictive factors for stent thrombosis. In comparison with bare metal stents the risk of stent thrombosis was significantly increased with first generation drug eluting stents, which was not the case with second generation drug eluting stents.
