Abstract:
We study the effect of two different scheduling policies (resource- and activity-based) embedded in a genetic algorithm on the average and the variance of the sum of the project’s makespans for the stochastic resource-constrained multi-project scheduling problem. Our results indicate that resource-based policies dominate activity-based policies and that the goals of minimizing the mean and the variance of the objective function are not conflicting.
