In the first part of the thesis, competition is integrated into performance analysis in sports by focusing on the areas of mathematical modelling of sports games, controlling sport competitions, and analysing sport competitions.
By restructuring the tasks of competition analysis in sports, the articles “Game interruptions in elite soccer”, “Influences on frequency and duration of game stoppages during soccer”, “Validity of Work-Rate Data in Soccer”, “Modeling soccer by means of relative phase”, and “Design of an accuracy study for position detection in football” are presented and discussed
Conclusively, the articles are discussed in the context of performance analysis. Moreover, a scientific outlook and ideas for future work based on the results of the presented work are given.
