The increasing application of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) in civil aircraft manufacturing leads to an increasing demand of reliable tooling solutions. A fast and cost effective manufacturing process for moulds by thermal spraying of Invar is proposed. As the properties of materials change when thermally sprayed, the resulting thermally sprayed Invar has to be optimized by variation of the spray parameters in order to achieve the properties seeked. To show the suitability of this tooling, practical testing were carried out yielding the fabrication of a demonstrator.
