The interpretation of the results of an automated blood cell count is usually performed by comparison with adequate reference ranges. In this work, reference ranges for the parameters of the complete blood cell count and the reticulocytes of 422 healthy adults considering gender and hematology analyzer have been elaborated. The gender dependency has been demonstrated for erythrocyte-, hemoglobin- and reticulocyte concentration, hematocrit, mean cellular hemoglobin concentration, reticulocyte hemoglobin content, platelet count and plateletcrit. For the large part of analyzed parameters, a statistically significant deviation in the results could be shown between the four analyzers used in this study, which, however, is not always of importance in practice. Moreover, it has been shown that the one-day storage of EDTA anticoagulated blood samples at room temperature has effects on the stability of some hematological parameters.
