The changes in physical activity in the context of depressive disorders were analyzed in this study using a three-dimensional accelerometer. A patient collective and a group of healthy controls has worn the actibelt® at the beginning of the study and for a follow-up-measurement for four days. Out of this parameters for objective acquisition of activity were extracted. Using questionnaires (amongst others Beck-Depression-Inventory, Clinical Global Impression Scale) we compared the patient’s subjective impairment by the illness with the health personnel’s assessment of the patient.
Amongst others, there were significant differences in the parameters Activity Temperature and Coherence Length, which were measured using the Accelerometer. Comparing the parameters with the patient’s subjective assessment did not lead to significant results.
The accelerometer was well accepted and can be used for patient-orientated measurements.
