An increasing number of mechatronical systems, a rising functional range of the systems as well as the trend of more interacting embedded systems in automotive development makes it difficult, to keep quality standards on a high level. Besides, more and more systems are developed for safety-relevant applications in the automotive environment. For these reasons - quality and safety - a structured process of development is necessary, with requirements engineering as a core concept.\\ In this technical report requirements traceability is elaborated as a key feature in automotive system engineering. Based on an extensive analysis of literature as well as industrial experiences, existing requirements traceability approaches are presented.\\ Focusing on the application in automotive system engineering, challenges for research in context of requirements traceability are identified.
