Coupled problems are a persistent matter of interest in science and
engineering both for their computational challenges and their numerous
applications. In the beginning of this talk we will give a very brief overview
on some of our current research areas involving coupled problems. These
are ranging from membrane wing aerodynamics, FSI of rocket nozzles to
plating processes and the large area of biomechanics. The focus of the
talk (and also this extended abstract) will be on computational modeling
of the human lung accounting for fluid-structure interaction effects in the
airways and interfacial phenomena in the respiratory zone.
