The NO calculation model of Heider will be further developed by using the net heat release analysis and a phenomenological approach. Inputs partly are physically modelled and partly are calculated by neural networks. Thus, a real-time model of NO calculation can be achieved by using the approved Zeldovich NO algorithm and a species calculation, which is optimized regarding calculational time. Thorough measurements with a single cylinder test engine validate the model. Prospects and limitations of the model are presented using a comparison to available tools.
