Optoacoustic imaging is a newly developed noninvasive, nonionizing imaging methodology that possesses high optical contrast and high resolution at large penetration depth. The author first developed a fast-speed, multispectral optoacoustic tomography system (MSOT) that successfully performed high-resolution 3D whole-body animal imaging and 3D molecular imaging. Then the author developed a real-time, high-resolution optoacoustic microscopy system, which achieves 3D imaging of small animals and the human palm and is promising for clinical practices such as skin cancer imaging, study of microcirculation, diagnosis in ophthalmology, etc.
