This study was performed to examine the possibility that the Tissue factor MspI and PstI Polymorphisms are associated with the occurrence of restenosis and clinical events after stent placement in coronary arteries. TF is a membrane-bound glycoprotein, that initiates the coagulation- cascade, when getting in contact with circulation. In atherosclerotic plaques, TF was found in endothelial cells, vascular smooth muscle cells and even in the matrix of the necrotic core. Because of its central role of the coagulation pathways TF-Polymorphisms could be involved in increasing the risk of restenosis after stent placement. 1850 consecutive patients with symptomatic coronary artery disease undergoing stent implantation were genotyped and no relationship of these polymorphisms with restenosis or clinical outcomes was observed.
